As we are officially a week into fall, UKRFCU has some helpful tips to save you money this fall.
Cook hearty, seasonal meals
Squash, apples and roots are in plentiful supply this time of year, which means making roasted vegetables, pies and fruit crumbles has never been more affordable, either. Whether you pick your own at a local farm or stock up at the grocery store, you can save.
Stock up for next summer
Summer items go on sale in early fall. Shop for summer clothes, grills, lawnmowers and similar summer merchandise you’ll need next year. If you’re planning a wedding for next summer, fall is a great time to start stocking up on things you’ll need – even your wedding and bridesmaid dresses, as summer styles go on sale.
Plan for the holidays
Get ahead of holiday shopping by saving up your money now. Think about what you’ll need to spend in the next few months and start setting aside a small amount from each of your paychecks moving forward.
Winterize your home
Cleaning out your furnace filter, making any necessary roof repairs and checking up on your insulation are all good places to prepare your home for the Winter.
Electric bill
Usually your electric bill will be lower during fall but take it a few steps further and turn your thermostat up/down so it doesn’t run as much. Enjoy the outside air and open a window.
Recreational activities
Take advantage of the local festivals in your area that are usually free or inexpensive. Spend some time outside and go for a hike, have a picnic, or visit a pumpkin patch or apple orchard.
Credit Card Subscriptions
Take a look at all the subscriptions connected to your debit cards and credit cards. See any services you rarely use or no longer require? Now’s the time to discontinue them. There are plenty of apps out there that help you keep track of all your subscriptions and make it easy to unsubscribe. If you have UKRFCU online banking you can also use our Money Management feature to easily keep track of all your spending!
