With nearly 1 in 3 children in Philadelphia experiencing food insecurity and school meal programs paused for the summer, demand for emergency food assistance is at a seasonal high.
On Wednesday, July 9, representatives from the Marketing Department attended the Philabundance Collaborative Credit Union Food Drive, alongside 11 other credit unions from the area. In total, the local credit unions delivered 3,903 pounds of food and $56,200 to support their annual food drive and donation drop-off. Now in its seventh year, the collaborative food drive brought together the following local credit unions:
- American Heritage Federal Credit Union
- Ardent Federal Credit Union
- Citadel Federal Credit Union
- Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union
- Freedom Credit Union
- Merck Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union
- Penn Federal Credit Union
- Reliance Federal Credit Union
- Sun East Federal Credit Union
- Tri County Area Federal Credit Union
- TruMark Financial Credit Union
- Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union
Held at the Philabundance Hunger Relief Center in South Philadelphia, the event featured remarks from TruMark Financial Credit Union CEO Kelly Botti, Philabundance CEO Loree Jones Brown, and representatives from participating credit unions.
“We are proud to join forces with our fellow local credit unions to help address food insecurity in our community, especially during the summer months when children lose access to school meals,” Botti said. “By coming together to support Philabundance, we hope to provide vital resources and nourishment to families who need it most. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to making a positive impact where we live and work.”
Philabundance serves over 135,000 individuals weekly through a network of more than 350 community partners across Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. As the region’s largest hunger relief organization, Philabundance plays a vital role in ensuring families, seniors, and children have consistent access to nutritious food. Donations like those from TruMark Financial’s annual drive help keep shelves stocked during the most demanding times of year, especially summer, when donations typically decline but need surges.
We are proud to continue demonstrating the foundational principle of credit unions of ‘People helping People’ and supporting the local community.
