No place in the United States celebrates Independence Day the way Philadelphia does! That’s because Philadelphia was the birthplace of the United States. On July 4th, 1776 United States claimed independence from Britain in what is now known as Independence Hall. Now, 245 years later, we continue to celebrate this holiday with exciting events happening all over the city. If you don’t have any plans for the 4th of July weekend just yet, consider the following:
Free Museum Days at Select Philadelphia Attractions
As part of Wawa Welcome America is the event’s Free Museum Days, when some of the city’s best museums and attractions offer free or pay-what-you-wish admission to visitors on select days during the 16-day July Fourth fest.
This year, 14 cultural institutions invite visitors to explore their collections for free or for a donation. Culture lovers can see the impressive permanent and special exhibitions on view at places like the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center, and The African American Museum in Philadelphia for a handsome discount.
Of course, exploring Philadelphia attractions is a bit different at the moment. Many of the free museum days require pre-registration for timed tickets. Masks may be recommended or required at many institutions as well. Your best bet: Plan ahead and check with each attraction before visiting.
