Tuesday Community Awareness Post:
Founded in 1918, the all-male Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus (UBC) has a long and proud history of representing Ukrainian bandura and choral music on the international stage. Today, the majority of Chorus members are 2nd and 3rd generation Americans and Canadians. Fortified by a whole new generation of young musicians, the Chorus has captivated audiences in major concert halls in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Ukraine since immigrating to North America from Europe in 1949. Members of the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus volunteer their time and talent for the mission of the ensemble. Based in Metropolitan Detroit since 1949, the ensemble is composed of talented musicians that come from all over North America; including Alberta, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Ontario, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
All are invited to attend the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America Centennial Concert Series that will be held on Sunday, June 23rd at 2:00 PM located at the Temple Performing Arts Center. Under the direction of Maestro Oleh Mahlay, the concert will feature the program from their 100th anniversary tour of Ukraine last year which included concerts at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine in Kyiv and at the Lviv National Opera.
